MALIBU DOG POWER

A noose outside their door, racist hate mail, dog excrement smeared on their windows... not the kinds of things one associates with star-studded Malibu... and yet this is what has happened to the Birenbaums, a bi-racial family evicted from their Malibu beach home.  An attorney and an actress who lived in a beachfront house on Malibu Road were forced to abandon their home under threat of going to jail by order of Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge, Richard Stone.

If you thought it couldn't happen here... think again.  It all started when the Birenbaums got tired of dogs running loose on the beach in front of their house, depositing their excrement on their porch and causing ecological problems for the ocean and wildlife. When they championed the enforcement of the “no dog on the beach law” fury was unleashed upon them by Malibu dog owners (2,500 dog owners in Malibu) -- culminating in their eviction for alleged “building code violations”.

The City claims that the Birenbaum family home is non-conforming to current building codes. Currently there are more than 1,200 homes/properties in Malibu that are recognized by the City of being "non-compliant" with building codes, but the City Council chose to prosecute and evict the Birenbaums for political reasons that have nothing to do with health or safety.

The City of Malibu intentions now are to demolish the Birenbaum’s home.

In this disaster capital of the nation, the Birenbaum home has withstood major earthquake, severe brush fires, record rainfall, the highest Santa Anna winds, as well as ocean storm flooding without any significant damage or harm over the past twenty three years.
